Your New Friends: The Forest

I am very excited to share with you: Your New Friends: The Forest!

I wanted to expand the “Your New Friends” Kids’ book series, to  nature-themes, as well as pet care, so I wrote several of these  books based on environments.”The Forest” was co-illustrated with my sister, Arianna.

“The Forest” is only the first installment of the nature-themed books, so there is definitely  more to come. I hope many will get to enjoy these books, and learn something on the way!

Kids’ Quilts

Quilt4

A couple of years ago I began learning how to quilt, and here are a few of my finished pieces.

This one is a baby blanket, and probably the smallest of the quilts I’ve sewn. It’s made with cotton quilting fabric and a cotton batting.

Here is a horse quilt that I made. It has cotton fabric, batting and yarn ties. I did not have a red backing for it at the time, so I used this brown and blue plaid fabric. I like how it turned out, the plaid really adds more character to the quilt.

Last but not least is the Frozen quilt. This one was fun to make, and it was also a group project. Kai helped out with cutting the quilt squares and Avery assisted with figuring out a pattern for  putting it together. The pattern took some careful thinking because although I purchased a yard of the Frozen character fabric for the purpose of making the quilt, both snowflake fabrics were found as fabric remnants on clearance. Therefore I did not know how much fabric I actually had to complete the quilt top. But we got it put together and here it is!

These are just a few of my quilting projects, and I have several others in the works. I hope you enjoyed a look at these ones, and I hope to have more to show you in the future! -Arianna

Art From Recycled Coffee Cans

Recycled1

Painting on empty coffee cans is something new I started doing recently. Typically we were just throwing them away in the trash, but one day I saved one to try painting on it, and I liked the results. Not to mention it gives the container a second life and keeps it out of a landfill.

These are the first three cans that I’ve painted, and I have more waiting to be decorated. I have been using them to store my paint brushes and other art supplies. They work well for that purpose, they look beautiful now and as a bonus, they still smell like coffee.

This was a new, fun project to experiment with, and I encourage you to get creative and see what other kinds of things that you can recycle into a beautiful work of art.
