where the water was dark the reflections were clear,
where the ink was the blackest the lights disappeared,
and I slept like a baby, I slept at a height,
that I hadn’t slept on for a many nights,
where the snow was its softest and no light could shine,
you completed the shadow releasing my mind,
and I slept like a flower in morning to bloom,
soothed in the waters, my liquid cocoon,
where the air was so thin in its breathable mist,
in those dark waters I slept like a fish,
blameless and gentle, my poems collide,
into years of resistance dissolving inside,
where the water was dark I felt cool I was calm,
you were killing the fever from under your palm,
and I slept like a baby, those years were released,
of the clutter inside me I slept in defeat…

where the rain was the purest, the deepest of rooms,
I found balance inside me and I couldn’t be moved,
the light and the darkness, I fell into sleep,
where the snow was its softest and I was received,
where the water was dark the reflections were clear,
where the lies grew the thickest the truth had appeared,
cleaned and re-opened in clouds so secure,
in powdery snowflakes, of soft silky fur,
where the water was dark I found comfort somewhere,
where the ink was the blackest and smeared in his hair,
and I slept like a baby, I slept like the fish,
in an ocean forever of gentle blue mist,
blameless and gentle I watch it collide,
all those years of destruction dissolving inside,
and I slept like a baby I slept in your hands,

when I touch you, you slip through my hands
And maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be
But I still don’t understand

Not so many people have done
For I battled you the best I could

You can paint your idea of perfection
Have collections and trophies to prove
But none of these scars
And these bandaged up hearts
Could ever be something to you…

But why do we come up with all these lies about ourselves?
Well you tell your son, it’s the way it is
Cause it’s the way it always was
So I’ll kneel at the feet of each child that I meet
And pray that our mistakes can be pardoned
And innocence will find its way back home
Back home

I think I was looking for wisdom,
a salve for reclaiming my soul
For a truth we have all but forgotten
But is something we already know
So you grade your idea of potential
Than experiment till you have proof
But what if our scars and our bandaged up hearts
Lead the way to becoming anew?
